About NUERA
NUERA is the company through which DESA, a fashion house with leather at its core since 1972, brings LUNAFORM™ to market. LUNAFORM™ is the advanced nanocellulose biomaterial invented by GOZEN. NUERA holds the exclusive global production and sales rights to this technology and covers its entire industrial journey: biofabrication, finished material, customization, product manufacturing and global brand supply.
DESA
DESA was founded in Istanbul in 1972 and has grown into one of Türkiye's most established and internationally connected industrial groups: a house that processes leather, finishes it and manufactures finished goods for international brands as well as for its own brand, with its own retail and distribution reach built over five decades.
That is the industrial half of NUERA. LUNAFORM™ is processed and finished on DESA's existing leather-processing lines, including its Leather Working Group Gold-certified tannery, through a route that is shorter and more streamlined than conventional leather processing and does not require harmful chemicals. The same house manufactures the finished products and supplies them to brands worldwide. NUERA is a fully owned subsidiary of the DESA Group.
GOZEN
GOZEN is an Istanbul biotechnology company founded in 2022 by the designer and material innovator Ece Gözen Akın. It invented LUNAFORM™ and BioCraft™, the controlled fermentation process that grows it: seven days from living culture to a 100% bio-based sheet, with innate strength, a cascading drape and a novel memory. GOZEN created some of the first commercially available translucent and indigo biomaterial collections of their kind, and in 2023 LUNAFORM™ reached retail with Balenciaga.
Under a long-term exclusive licensing arrangement, GOZEN granted NUERA the global production and sales rights to LUNAFORM™. GOZEN's scientific, technical and creative talent transitioned into NUERA, where it leads the evolution of the material, its customization and its development with brands.

Over the past decade, hundreds of ventures developed next-generation biomaterials and proved the biology. The gap between a promising material and a commercially viable product is where quality, finishing, manufacturing and scale become decisive. NUERA was built to close that gap by putting the invention and the infrastructure inside one company: DESA provides the industrial capability and owns the company; GOZEN provides the material, the technology and the people who know it best. Burak Çelet has spent more than two decades building DESA into one of Türkiye's most established and internationally connected leather companies. Since joining DESA in 2003 he has led its international expansion, manufacturing growth and strategic partnerships. With a background in mechanical engineering, an MBA and an MSc in leather technology, he founded NUERA to extend DESA's heritage in leather and fashion into the future of materials, building on the expertise and systems developed over generations rather than replacing them.

Ece Gözen Akın is the inventor of LUNAFORM™, a multidisciplinary designer, entrepreneur and material innovator working at the intersection of biotechnology, material science and progressive design. She founded GOZEN in 2022 and led LUNAFORM™ from an early material concept to a commercially developed biofabricated material platform. At NUERA she leads the evolution of LUNAFORM™ and the scientific, technical and creative teams that turn biofabrication into products for the world's leading brands.
